Orthopedic Surgery
Finally, when patients do not respond to conservative treatments of chronic pain, surgical options need to be considered by the patient in consultation with The Pain Management Center team. Based on the history, medical evaluation and diagnostic imaging findings a surgical approach will be discussed with the patient in conjunction with his/her physician.
When patients have leg pain caused by mechanical compression on the nerve roots in the back, skillfully performed surgery by experienced orthopedic surgeons can provide dramatic relief of the chronic pain and potential damage to the nerves. Minimally invasive procedures such as percutaneous discectomies and nucleoplasties are approaches that remove or shrink herniated discs and eliminate the need for major surgery of the back.
