Selective Injections
If the more conservative methods of counseling and physical therapy do not provide pain relief, then the use of selective injections of steroids and/or numbing medication can be quite effective. The injections are usually performed under sedation with minimal discomfort. Sometimes the injections are needed to provide the freedom of pain and muscle spasm that is necessary for the physical therapy and exercise programs to work. Injections can provide dramatic relief for periods of several months and allow for active physical therapy programs, good biomechanics and appropriate exercise.
